This post is a collection of links that support my increasingly strong feeling that the human race (or at least our technological civilization) is doomed. It is part of an ongoing series of posts.
Fallen branches |
- How Fungi Could Cause the Next Pandemic. "The Last of Us may be more real than you think. The spread of fungal pathogens in humans and other species are a disaster waiting to happen."
- Activist Group Spreads Misinformation to Stop US Solar Projects. "An energy company's plans for a solar plant powering 25,000 homes were thwarted after a four-year battle with a nonprofit that teamed with locals to restrict large-scale solar projects, reports NPR. That non-profit's name? Citizens for Responsible Solar."
- The Christian Nationalist Machine Turning Hate Into Law. "The National Association of Christian Lawmakers is enacting its "biblical worldview," one state legislature at a time."
- Long-term cardiovascular outcomes of COVID-19. "Our results provide evidence that the risk and 1-year burden of cardiovascular disease in survivors of acute COVID-19 are substantial. Care pathways of those surviving the acute episode of COVID-19 should include attention to cardiovascular health and disease."
- Absence from work at record high as Americans feel strain from Covid. "More than a million people have called out sick for the past three years, and CDC says long Covid probably a contributor too."
- Data-driven predictions of the time remaining until critical global warming thresholds are reached. "Our results confirm that global warming is already on the verge of crossing the 1.5 °C threshold, even if the climate forcing pathway is substantially reduced in the near-term. Our predictions also suggest that even with substantial greenhouse gas mitigation, there is still a possibility of failing to hold global warming below the 2 °C threshold."
- COVID survivors at increased risk of long-term gastrointestinal conditions. "Although people with severe COVID had highest risk, mild cases also upped risks."
