This week's photo is of a somewhat sheltered bench in the dog park near our house. The canopy is ornamental and as far as I'm concerned, a waste of money, as it offers no protection from rain or sun. More benches would have been nice too.
What could that mysterious shadow at the bottom be?

Did nobody think of using a compass when installing. From shadow length it looks like the photo was midddayish. That means the bech is pretty much facing due south and therfore even in the early dawn and late dusk the ornament won't provide shade (dappled as it would be) to anyone seated.
Neither use nor ornament........... oh hang on ;-)
I took the picture in midmorning around 10:00 a.m. The bench is oriented west-south west. It might get shaded a bit in the late afternoon and evening.
